Tom Shay wrote to us:
On 09.09.23, Alexis and Noah Marx held their wedding reception at the Reading Liederkranz. What a wonderful venue!
As part of the festivities, they had a Baumstamm sägen (sawing of tree trunk), which is an old German wedding custom. It consists of cutting a log, which represents the first obstacle that the couple must overcome in their marriage. They must work together to “overcome the obstacle” by sawing through the log. Using a saw with two handles, the couple demonstrates their teamwork to friends and family, and their willingness and ability to master the difficulties that inevitably arise in a marriage.
For 133 years the Reading Liederkanz delivers authentic German culture, festivals, food, and drink in Berks County! Home of the #1 Rated Oktoberfest. All are welcome!
