Past Reading Liederkranz Scholarship Winners

2012 Winner

Jocelyn Beck was graduated from Blue Mountain High School in 2012. She is the daughter of Derek and Bonnie Beck, Pottsville. Her father is a member of the club. In the fall Jocelyn will be attending Alvernia University to major in Biology and minor in Psychology with future plans of obtaining a Masters in Physician Assistant Studies. She studied the German language for four years. Her high school extracurricular activities include International Club, Schuylkill County Youth Leadership, Varsity Club, Junior Varsity Softball, Varsity Softball and Powder Puff Football. Jocelyn has also participated in the International Culture Day language competition at Lebanon Valley College and was a Junior Counselor for the PA State Police Camp Cadet Program after serving one year as a cadet and earning the Honor Cabin Award. She has served as Public Relations Manager and then President of TKN (Teens Kickin Nicotine).

2011 Winner

Benjamin Meck was graduated from Methacton High School in 2011. He is the son of Eric and Diane Meck, and grandson of George Babilon. His father and grandfather are members of the club. In the fall Benjamin will be attending Bloomsburg University to major in Accounting, with a concentration in Fraud Examination, and a minor in German. He has studied the German language for five years. His high school extracurricular activities included football, utimate frisbee,  chorus, chorale, concert band, National Honor Society, German club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and the ski and snowboard club. Benjamin is also an Eagle Scout and a proud schuhplattler in the Auerhahn Schuhplattler Verein, Oley, Pennsylvania.

2010 Winner

Victoria (Tori) Buch was graduated from Exeter Township High School in 2010.  She is the daughter of Ray and Cathy Buch; Ray is a long time member of the club. In the fall Tori will be attending Loyola University of Maryland where she plans to major in photojournalism.  Her high school activities included field hockey, lacrosse and track & field. She also participated in the Key Club, Leo Club, Photo/Yearbook Club and the musical stage crew. Tori played club field hockey for both the High Styx and Xcalibur teams and was a staff photographer/writer for the Voices section of the Reading Eagle.  She also participated in the German American Partnership Program (GAPP), hosted a German student from Moosburg, Germany and then traveled abroad living with her German partner and attending school in Bavaria.

2009 Winner

Kristian Kohler was graduated from Exeter Township High School in 2009.  He is the son of Kurt Kohler, who is a member of the club.  In the fall Kristian will be attending Westminster Choir College of Rider University to major in both music education and sacred music. His high school activities included drum major of the marching band, a member of the choir and orchestra, and the vice president of the National Honor Society. In addition, he was the president of the German Club and took part in an exchange through the German-American Partnership Program. Through this program, he was able to spend a month with a host family in Moosburg (Bavaria), attend school at the Karl-Ritter-von-Frisch-Gymnasium, and travel extensively throughout Germany and Austria. Kristian hopes to be a music teacher at a high school while continuing to perform in community and church groups.
